“ To be honest, I wasn't expecting to like Black Walnut as much as I did. My prejudgments were definitely kicking in, but we needed to give the kids something to eat to prevent a nuclear meltdown. We walked in and ordered at the front desk. We sat down, and even though the drinks are self serve, we were frequently asked if we wanted refills on drinks. Our food came out fairly quickly, and everything was great! My wife and I shared a blackened salmon blueberry spinach salad, and we really enjoyed it. The salmon was cooked perfectly, and even though I'm not big on sweet salads it worked well. The kids burger looked good, I was able to sneak in a few fries and they were nice and crispy. Overall I was impressed and would definitely return, especially to this location. ”
“ Whenever I want to excite my yeast buds with healthy and fresh eating with a great fusion of American favorites, I go here. The brunch is my favorite. Self serving and seating most of the time so get a menu and know what you want as soon as you enter so that you get the perfect table. Whenever I have more than 4 people, I grab a table before we order. The waffles are always cooked to perfection if you like them with a crisp outside and fluffy inside. ”
“ Went here for a quick little breakfast and was very pleased. Food was quick and tasty. The jam that came with the bread was delicious, I wouldn't have picked that if I had seen it on the menu but I'm glad I had it. Have a good little selection of baked goods and drinks. I would go back. ”
“ Came in during brunch "rush hour" so the line to order was out the door. There was a staff member passing out menus and he also took mimosa orders if you wanted to sip while you waited in line to order your food. Tables are a seat yourself first come first serve style. A few tables had gotten up right as we ordered so we were able to seat ourselves quickly. They also have a newly expanded outdoor patio seating. They give you a number to put in your table and the staff brings your drinks and food to the table. This is different than before it was a buzzer and you had to pick up your own order. I like this way better. I ordered the big plate: eggs scrambled with double portion of chicken sausage & grits. It comes with 3 mini pancakes, 2 eggs any style, 2 choices of meat, and choice of grits or potatoes. I love their pancakes! They are fluffy and the batter tastes great by itself. The apple chicken sausage is also very yummy and has a little sweetness to it. I also love me some yellow corn grits! It was creamy and hearty. I loved everything about my plate. Hubby ordered the steak and eggs plate. He was able to switch out the flour tortillas for corn instead. He enjoyed his breakfast but his two critiques was that the portion of steak was a little small and they barely gave him any avocado. The server was able to get him a little more avocado. The staff were very attentive and multiple people checked on our table. The server that came by the most was Salvador and he was awesome! Very nice man who didn't mind how many things you asked him for. ”
“ Food was okay. The chicken of the chicken lettuce wraps could have been seasoned and cooked a little more. The spicy mango margaritas were delicious! Service was okay. Because it was my birthday weekend I enjoyed coming to Black Walnut for the first time. I'm not sure if I would come again considering the food options were not really speaking to me. Ambiance was cute for date night. ”
“ Came in on a Monday for brunch with my friend. Surprisingly lively given the time but plenty of seats. Dress code: casual Food 5/5: I ordered the blackened salmon, my friend got the birria tacos and we shared the Vietnamese chicken wings. Everything was delicious, well cooked with good presentation Ambiance 4/5: casual cafe/eatery ambiance, pretty, comfy seating Service 4/5: counter service, self serve water, waitress brings food to your table after you order at the counter. Fairly quick service, polite, friendly Value 4/5: great food at a decent price, generally would say it's good value, would come again occasionally Total 4.5/5: I personally weigh food and value more heavily Parking: parking garage in rice village is free 2nd floor and up, or paid metered parking in the parking lot next to the restaurant ”
“ Boy oh Boy! I wish I lived closer. My son and I were here on a day trip to Houston. He chose this place from Google. As soon as I saw the menu I saw there were so many things I wanted to try. I settled for the Birria tacos and my son got cinnamon roll pancakes. We both enjoyed our food. Our wait was short and I was able to look over the menu and plan my next visit. I would like to try the mimosa flight, Philly cheesesteak egg rolls, salmon, cheeseburger.... The list goes on and on. The place is very spacious, clean, airy, and appropriate noise level that indicated people were chatting and enjoying their food. Great place and I will be back soon! ”
“ Such a great spot for brunch/lunch! My friends and I came after a school event, and it was pretty busy by the time we arrived. You can pay for parking in the lot, but there is a garage nearby that allows you to park for free for 2 hours! I ordered the chicken parm and an iced vanilla latte. The coffee took a while to come out, and I honestly think they forgot mine bc my friends had already received theirs earlier on, so I had to ask them about it twice, but they were kind and attentive. I really enjoyed the chicken parm- the portion was pretty big, so it was a very satisfying and filling meal. I would come back to get this dish again. The tomato sauce from the chicken parm and the Alfredo from the fettuccine complement each other so well. With every bite, you have to make sure you pick up both the pasta and chicken haha. The interior is extremely nice and clean. Love all the natural lighting. Will definitely be back! ”
